Rule of law and access to justice is important to the Hong Kong’s status as the hub of international dispute resolution. However, unilateral sanctions have posed threat to a sanctioned party’s access to justice. In the one-hour seminar, the speaker will address the audience on (1) the (il)legality of unilateral sanctions; (2) how such sanctions in practice have given rise to practical concerns of legal practitioners acting for a sanctioned party in the context of arbitration.

About the Speaker

Adrian is a barrister practising in Hong Kong and a Certified Public Accountant of Hong Kong, holding the specialist qualification in insolvency matters. In addition to civil practice, he has been engaged as Counsel on matters relating to arbitration, banking, commercial, company, construction, professional accountants’/auditors’ negligence as well as professional disciplinary proceedings. As a renowned arbitrator, Adrian often advises on/appears in international and domestic commercial arbitration, investor-State arbitration and State-State arbitration. He is also the Deputy Secretary General of Asian Academy of International Law and in such capacity participates in the work of UNCITRAL Working Group III and reports to UNCITRAL as a China’s national correspondent on Hong Kong’s implementation of the New York Convention and UNCITRAL Model Law.
