Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators

This year's Annual Dinner will be held in the Chater Room of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Happy Valley Clubhouse. Dress code is lounge suit for men, and suitably appropriate attire for ladies. Drinks will commence at 7:00pm followed by dinner at 8:00pm. Our guest speaker will be Dr Cheng Hon-Kwan, Chairman of the Hong Kong Housing Authority.

Prior to the dinner Dr Nael Bunni, President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators has very kindly agreed to give a seminar entitled "Recent Trends in Setting Construction Disputes with particular reference to certain aspects of the ICC Report on Construction Industry Arbitrators". The seminar will also be held in the Chater Room and will commence at 6pm.

An after dinner presentation entitled "Touching on Technology" by Ms Vicky Harris of Smith Bernel has also been arranged. Smith Bernal International (Asia) Ltd. was established in Hong Kong in 1994 and in Singapore in 2000 at the request of solicitors who had used Smith Bernal International's services in the UK and found no comparable service in South East Asia. In 1999 Smith Bernal International (Asia) Limited successfully bid for the Government reporting contracts for the New Territories and Kowloon, a total of nearly 80 courts.

A number of VIP guests have also been invited to attend our dinner.

In order to encourage more members to attend, the council has approved a subsidy for each member attending these events. The cost of the seminar, dinner and after dinner presentation will therefore be HK$400 for Institute Members, which includes a drinks package.

We very much hope that you will be able to come along to these events. If you wish to bring along your own guests to the seminar and dinner, we would be happy to see them there too.
