Visit to Wuhan Arbitration Commission International Arbitration Court and Participation in the 2007 International Seminar on “The Application and Interpretation of the CISG in Member States with Emphasis on Litigation and Arbitration in the PRC

Mr. Gary Soo, as President, Mr. Paul Varty, as Vice-President, Mr. Wilson Kwan and Mr. James Lee, as Council Members of HKIArb, visited the Wuhan Arbitration Commission International Arbitration Court on 12 October 2007 and to participated in the International Seminar of CISG on 13-14 October 2007 held at the Wuhan University.

During the visit, the delegation met with Mr. Xiong Shi Zhong, First Deputy Chairman of Wuhan Arbitration Commission, Mr. Li Deng Hua and Mr. Li Zhang Bo, Vice Chairmen of Wuhan Arbitration Commission International Arbitration Court to introduce the development and works of HKIArb and to discuss closer co-operation between the two bodies.

At the 2007 International Seminar on “The Application and Interpretation of the CISG in Member States with Emphasis on Litigation and Arbitration in the PRC”, the delegation exchanged with scholars and representatives from the Wuhan University Institute of International Law, the Pace University School of Law Institute of International Commercial Law and the China Society of Private International Law and many other academic institutes on the arbitration of disputes arising from international sale of goods. The goal of the seminar was to promote mutual understanding of the CISG provisions and their practical application, thereby fostering the uniform and harmonized interpretation of the CISG and enhancing the rule of law in international commercial transactions.
